To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Symphony of Destruction, one of the greatest heavy metal hits, Alexandre de Orio, a Brazilian musician (guitar player) recorded a tribute playing one of most important Megadeth’s song by adding the power of percussion of Samba.
Orio, Kroma Electric Guitar Quartet’s guitarist, also involved in many other projects and Yamaha products specialist, has been a music teacher for over 20 years, and at least 4 of those years at Yamaha Music School. He is the author of the book Brazilian Metal: Brazilian Rhythms Applied to Metal Guitar. Foreword written by Andreas Kisser.
This ‘Brazilian flavor’ version features Felipe Andreoli (bassist of Angra) and rhythm musicians Fernando Neninho, Drums Conductor of Camisa Verde e Branco school of samba, Ricardo Corrêa, Sandro Gouveia dos Santos, João Fernando Urbano Guzzardi from Batuque de Corda (Samba Group).
“The idea is to honor one of the most important metal band. In addition to being one of my areas of study, this samba blend will leave no doubts that it is a truly Brazilian tribute”, say Orio.
Coincidentally, Nick Menza (ex-drummer) that recorded the original version, passed away during the week of recording of this homage, which inspired Orio to finish the song as a tribute.
A painting of Fabiana Langaro Loos illustrates the beginning of the video, an artist who paints pictures inspired by heavy metal songs. This portrait is inspired by the song Symphony of Destruction and received the very same name. The video was shot by Anderson Rodrigues and the edition was made by Kaiowas Studio. The track was recorded, mixed and mastered by Rafael Augusto Lopes (ex-Torture Squad and Imminent Attack) at Casanegra Studio in São Paulo.
Besides the book, Brazilian Metal is na Orio’s Project which invites lot of percussionists to join the electric guitar in unusual versions of rock and metal. In 2012, it was the turn of “Cowboys from Hell” by Pantera, with the group Bateria S/A.

SYMPHONY OF DESTRUCTION DO MEGADETH CHEGA AOS 25 ANOS E GANHA TRIBUTO COM PEGADA BRASILEIRA
Para marcar os 25 anos de Symphony of Destruction um dos maiores clássicos do heavy metal, o guitarrista Alexandre de Orio gravou um tributo a uma das músicas mais importantes do Megadeth adicionando samba ao peso do som extremo.
Orio, do Quarteto Kroma de Guitarras e músico em diversos projetos, é professor há 20 anos, quatro deles na Yamaha Music School, pesquisador da aplicação dos ritmos nacionais à guitarra metal e autor do livro Metal Brasileiro: Ritmos Brasileiros para Guitarra Metal com prefácio de Andreas Kisser, do Sepultura, com edições traduzidas para o exterior.
Participam da versão de Symphony of Destruction o baixista Felipe Andreoli (Angra) e os ritimistas Fernando Neninho, mestre de bateria da escola Camisa Verde e Branco, e Ricardo Corrêa, Sandro Gouveia dos Santos e João Fernando Urbano Guzzardi, do grupo Batuque de Corda.
"A ideia é homenagear uma das bandas mais importantes da história do metal e essa mescla com o samba, além de ser uma das minhas linhas de estudo, não deixa dúvida que a homenagem é mesmo brasileira", diz Orio.
Coincidentemente Nick Menza, ex-baterista do Megadeth que comandou as baquetas na versão original, morreu na semana das gravações da homenagem o que inspirou Orio a finalizar a canção como um tributo.
Ilustra o início do vídeo o quadro da artista brasileira Fabiana Langaro Loos inspirado na música e que leva o mesmo nome da canção. As filmagens ficaram a cargo do filmaker Anderson Rodrigues e a edição é do Kaiowas Studio. A faixa foi gravada, mixada e masterizada por Rafael Augusto Lopes (ex-Torture Squad/Imminent Attack) no estúdio Casanegra, em São Paulo.
Além do livro, Metal Brasileiro é um projeto de Orio que convida diversos grupos de percussionistas para se juntarem à guitarra em versões inusitadas do rock/metal. Em 2012, foi a vez de “Cowboys from Hell”, do Pantera, com o grupo Bateria S/A.
O tributo será lançado na web em 14 de junho, aniversário do disco Countdown to Extinction que traz a música no canal Alexandre de Orio no Youtube (www.youtube.com/ alexandredeorio).
